| Medrad 'goes green' at Saxonburg plant
Medrad's new assembly plant in Victory Road Business Park has been built to qualify for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certification. The idea behind the certification is to do well by doing good: erecting and operating buildings that put less stress on the environment and workers, and offer the potential to reduce construction and operating costs. The LEED certification system was developed by the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council. When the projects were being planned, Medrad's top executives and board reviewed information on LEED certification for both the Victory Road factory and for the company's new Global Center headquarters in Marshall, according to Eric Ferchaw, the company's director of global facilities. Directors agreed that "going green" would improve working conditions for employees, offer financial benefits, help the company's public image and aid the environment.

Voters in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties gave a multibillion dollar roads and transit measure the thumbs down last night. And with the numbers still coming in, both sides are planning their next move. KUOW's Jamala Henderson reports. WHEN SUPPORTERS OF PROPOSITION 1 HEARD LAST NIGHT THAT THEIR MEASURE WAS FAILING, THEY VOICED THEIR DISAPPOINTMENT. PIERCE COUNTY EXECUTIVE JOHN LADENBURG STEPPED UP TO THE PODIUM. HE SAID VOTERS REJECTION OF THE MEASURE WON'T KILL THE DREAM FOR REGIONAL TRANSIT. LADENBURG: "We are going to make this happen it may not be this year, it may not be this month it may not be this election. But it will happen, because its about our future." KING COUNTY COUNCILMAN LARRY PHILLIPS IS ON THE SOUND TRANSIT BOARD. HE SUPPORTED PROPOSITION ONE.

-The worst month for sports is what were going through right now. The NBA is hitting the mid-season and there is yet to be any real excitement. You have the NFL that just got over a month ago, and yes, we're all sad because that marks the end of football for another 6-7 months. College Football recruiting is always fun, but we all know that in a sense it is just a waiting game that is boring. We have College Basketball hitting conference schedules real hard which is truely fun to watch, but we then enter the conference tournaments and they mean nothing. MLB isen't even heard of in this month, and NASCAR has qualifying on the week before Daytona. Isen't that just interesting. The month of February is a complete let-down. This month is almost worthless in the world of sports. I mean, the NBA season may be shaping up, but there is another 40 games to be played.
Gossage Elected to Hall in His Ninth Attempt
With an explosive fastball that unnerved hitters, a motion that was an intertwining of long arms and long legs and a Fu Manchu mustache that was his perpetual Halloween mask, Rich Gossage was an intimidator. Gossage, a dependable bouncer on the mound who was known as Goose, pushed his way to baseball's highest honor Tuesday when he was elected into the Hall of Fame. .
AC on cold morning leads to Estates grow-house bust
An air conditioner that was in use on an unusually cold morning helped lead investigators to a suspected marijuana grow house operation in Golden Gate Estates. Delfin H. Puentes, 39, of Fort Myers, was arrested Thursday and charged with marijuana trafficking -- more than 25 pounds -- and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Reports say Puentes operated a marijuana grow house at 1781 8th Ave. N.E. Earlier this month a deputy on patrol noticed that an air conditioning unit was in use at the house on a cold morning. As the deputy approached the residence, he could smell the odor of growing marijuana. The house appeared to be vacant at the time. Around 10 a.m. Thursday, a blue Nissan Pathfinder driven by Puentes left the house, traveling 51 mph on Eighth Avenue Northeast, where the posted speed is 35 mph.
