| India continues to influence events in Sri Lanka
Perhaps, the only exception was when Rajiv Gandhi sent more than 100,000 Indian peace keeping forces to Sri Lanka subsequent to the 1987 Indo-Lanka accord. Even during this period, some reports said India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) did not allow the Indian forces to capture or kill LTTE leader Prabhakaran though they cornered him twice. It is because of this double-game played by India, however much Sri Lankan politicians say that 'India is our best friend', both India and Sri Lanka know that the saying is clouded by opportunism or political exigencies. Last week, the Marxists-turned-nationalists, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, sounded a warning that if India did not desist from playing its double game, the party would launch a nation-wide campaign to boycott Indian products.
Same-sex marriage amendment advances
Christmas is Dec. 25 because the Roman Catholic Church was attempting to counter pagan festivals held that time of year. (Winter Festival, anyone?) The 25th was an arbitrary day as good as any other at the time. The point was to attract pagans to Christianity and away from their (pagan) celebration. By carefully reading who was king and when, descriptions of the activities taking place at the time, then taking into account changes in the calendar, Christ's birthday was likely about September 29. People with more time than me figured this out. As far as separation of church and state, the first amendment guarantees freedom OF religion, not FROM religion. The word separation does not appear anywhere. We are free to believe as we wish without government interference.

Hampshire has its say on water fluoridation
Click here to see a variety of studies into fluoridation. HAMPSHIRE is a ticking time bomb when it comes to tooth decay, it has been claimed. One third of adults in the county do not even bother to brush their teeth twice a day. On top of this, a quarter of Hampshire's adults stated they do not think it is necessary to brush twice a day and 20 per cent admitted they simply cannot be bothered. As the debate about whether extra fluoride should be added to our tap water here in Hampshire hots up, these worrying statistics suggest simple oral hygiene needs to be addressed. The figures have emerged from research carried out by independent dental healthcare company Denplan. The research also found that across the country 36 per cent of men clean their teeth just once a day while 70 per cent of women brush at least twice a day.
