Pressure falls on Orioles to ensure Jones is successful
What you're looking to see is how they react afterward. "He came into my office [Tuesday], and said, 'Hey Dave, I was awful today, wasn't I?' " Trembley said. "He knew it. I didn't have to tell him. Then he hit the grand slam, but the thing I liked was when he singled and came out of the batter's box real hard and made a big turn at first base. It was a single all the way, but he was thinking double. "You know how it is. A lot of guys just kind of check in at first, but he didn't do that. I hope he never loses that enthusiasm for playing the game that way." Jones is shouldering the hopes and dreams of a lot of people. The Orioles are heading into a difficult rebuilding period that is certain to feature a lot of highs and lows for all of the players who factor into the team's long-term future, but Jones is the one most likely to be under a magnifying glass this season.
